Alcohol Research Initiative

This research was funded by the Alcoholic Beverages Division (ABD), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the US Department of Agriculture. This work is an investigation into the location of and access to alcohol. In addition, alcohol’s harmful effects and risk factors of excessive alcohol consumption for individuals, families, and communities. While also developing an understanding of the social environment and factors that shed light on drinking in Iowa. The goal is to compile data on alcohol’s presence and effects in Iowa to interpret patterns and make predictions that may inform policy and community programming related to alcohol.

This dashboard shows both the on-premises and off-premises licensed alcohol outlet locations, making their density visible, while also showing proximity to schools and alcohol-related car crashes.
